Living in Futian: The Centre of Everything
Futian is where Shenzhen puts on its suit: the CBD, the government seat, and the junction where every metro line seems to converge. Convenience is its superpower; character is the trade-off.

The short version
Broad avenues, manicured parks, malls the size of small towns: Futian is clean, organised, and slightly sterile. The CBD around Civic Centre is glass towers and business hotels; Shopping Park is where young professionals spend salaries on imported cheese; Huaqiangbei is the electronics market that ate a city block; and Qiaoxiang is where wealthy families live in gated compounds.

Why people choose it
Connectivity, full stop. You can reach virtually anywhere in Shenzhen without changing trains more than once, the high-speed rail puts Hong Kong 15 minutes away, and the airport is half an hour. For business travellers and anyone whose life spans multiple districts, nothing else comes close.
Highlights: Lianhuashan Park’s hilltop view over the city, COCO Park’s international restaurants and expat-friendly bars, and Huaqiangbei whenever anything electronic needs buying or fixing.
The trade-offs
Futian delivers convenience, not soul. If you want your neighbourhood to have texture, look at Luohu; if you want waterfront and community, look at Nanshan. Rents are premium (just below Shekou), and the district skews corporate after dark.
