Content policy

Every guide follows four principles that keep the information useful for Shenzhen residents and newcomers alike:

• It is clear. We write in plain English, explain the basics, and unpack local jargon so that everyone can follow along, even without Chinese language skills.
• It is free. The information stays open to everyone—no paywalls, accounts, or email captures.
• It is trustworthy. Advice reflects what we would tell close friends. Editorial decisions sit with us, not with advertisers or partners, and guides are written by humans who know the city.
• It is accurate. We fact-check against official and community sources, note dates, and correct mistakes quickly once we spot them.

Advertising policy

HeyShenzhen exists to give reliable advice, not to push products. We occasionally collaborate with partners when it benefits readers. When we do, these rules apply:

• Helpful first. We only highlight services that we would recommend ourselves. Alternatives, including free or DIY options, are always mentioned.
• Editorial independence. We do not publish guest posts, follow external style guides, or allow advertisers to edit or veto our content.
• Affiliate disclosure. Some pages contain affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions help keep HeyShenzhen free.

Privacy policy

We respect your privacy and collect as little personal data as possible. Here is how the site behaves:

Statistics

We measure traffic with privacy-friendly analytics. The tracking does not use cookies, and the data stays within the European Union.

Local storage

Some forms store drafts in your browser to prevent data loss when you reload the page. The information never leaves your device.

Forms

When you submit a form, we receive only the details you provide. Requests are handled, then deleted as soon as possible. We do not sell or share personal information.

Other information

We keep anonymised server logs to diagnose technical issues. These logs do not contain personal data and are deleted regularly.
